Master Cylinder: Installation

  1. Adjust the booster piton rod. See POWER BRAKE BOOSTER PISTON ROD ADJUSTMENT  under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS.
  2. Bench bleed the master cylinder. See MASTER CYLINDER BENCH BLEEDING  under BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM.
  3. If the vehicle has ABS, install the proportioning valve to the master cylinder. See PROPORTIONING VALVE  .
  4. Install the master cylinder and the 2 nuts to the brake booster. Tighten bolts to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  5. Connect the brake pipes. Tighten the flare nuts to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  6. Install the reservoir. See MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR  .
  7. Connect the reservoir fluid level connector.
  8. Fill the reservoir. See MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR FILLING  under BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM.
  9. Bleed the brake system. See MANUAL BLEEDING  under BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM.
  10. Inspect the brake system for leaks. See HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM EXTERNAL LEAK INSPECTION  in HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS.
  11. Inspect the brake pedal travel. See BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL AND MEASUREMENT  under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS.
  12. Perform road test.
