Manual Bleeding

  1. Ensure the engine is OFF. Press brake pedal several times to exhaust vacuum reserve. Clean master cylinder cap and surrounding area, then remove cap. Fill master cylinder, and install cap. See MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR FILLING  . Have an assistant slowly depress brake pedal, and hold. Loosen master cylinder brake line fitting to purge air from master cylinder bore.
  2. Tighten brake line fitting and then release brake pedal slowly. Repeat this operation with each brake line at master cylinder until air is completely purged. If brake pedal is firm and not spongy, bleeding is complete. If brake pedal is spongy, go to next step and bleed each wheel in sequence.
  3. Install clear vinyl bleeder hose onto first wheel bleeder screw to be serviced. See BRAKE LINE BLEEDING SEQUENCE  table. Submerge other end of hose into a clean, transparent container partially filled with clean brake fluid. Open bleeder screw and slowly depress brake pedal and hold.
  4. Close bleeder screw, and release pedal. Repeat procedure until flow of brake fluid is clear and bubble free. Proceed to next bleeder screw. See BRAKE LINE BLEEDING SEQUENCE  table. Tighten all bleeder screws to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Add brake fluid to master cylinder after bleeding all wheels.
