Heated Mirrors Inoperative

Heated Mirrors Inoperative

1 Did you review the Heated Mirror Description and Operation? Go to Step 2  Go to Symptoms - Doors

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Depress the rear window defogger switch.
Does the rear window defogger operate normally?
Go to Step 3  Go to DEFOGGER INOPERATIVE - REAR WINDOW (W/O CARGO DOORS) or DEFOGGER INOPERATIVE - REAR WINDOW (W/CARGO DOORS)
3 Do the heated mirrors operate normally? Go to TESTING FOR INTERMITTENT AND POOR CONNECTIONS Go to Step 4 
4 Are both heated mirrors inoperative? Go to Step 5  Go to Step 8 
5 Inspect the HTD MIR fuse.
Is the HTD MIR fuse open?
Go to Step 6  Go to Step 10 
6 Test the mirror heating element supply voltage circuit for a short to ground. Refer to CIRCUIT TESTING and WIRING REPAIRS .
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 14  Go to Step 7

  1. Test both of the heated mirrors for an internal short to ground.
  2. Replace the mirror faces as necessary. Refer to Mirror Face Replacement (DL3, DR4, DL8, 5M1) .
Did you complete the repair?
Go to Step 14  -

  1. Disconnect the inoperative mirror.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the mirror heating element supply voltage circuit at the mirror harness connector and a good ground.
  3. Depress the rear defogger switch to activate the system.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 9  Go to Step 10 
9 With the system still active, connect a test lamp between the mirror heating element supply voltage circuit and the mirror ground circuit at the mirror harness connector.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 12  Go to Step 11 
10 Repair the open in the mirror heating element supply voltage circuit. Refer to CIRCUIT TESTING and WIRING REPAIRS .
Did you complete the repair?
Go to Step 14  -
11 Repair the open in the mirror ground circuit. Refer to CIRCUIT TESTING and WIRING REPAIRS .
Did you complete the repair?
Go to Step 14  -
12 Inspect for poor connections at the mirror harness connector. Refer to TESTING FOR INTERMITTENT AND POOR CONNECTIONS and CONNECTOR REPAIRS .
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 14  Go to Step 13 
13 Replace the heated mirror face. Refer to Mirror Face Replacement (DL3, DR4, DL8, 5M1) .
Did you complete the repair?
Go to Step 14  -
14 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
System OK Go to Step 3
