Linear Shift Assembly - Disassemble - Off - Vehicle

- Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
- Remove the upper and lower trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .
- Remove the following:
- Shift lever screw (3)
- Shift lever assembly (4)
- Shift lever seal (2)
NOTE: Do not use excessive force when removing the automatic transmission shift lock control from the steering column. Using excessive force may cause damage to the automatic transmission shift lock control and/or the steering column. - Remove the automatic transmission shift lock control in the following way:
- Put the shift lever clevis into the NEUTRAL position.
- Use a small screwdriver to pry the automatic transmission shift lock control away from the steering column jacket assembly and the cable shift cam assembly.
- Remove and discard 3 flat head 6 lobed socket tap screws from the linear shift assembly.
- Remove the linear shift assembly.
