Front Brake Caliper Bracket: Removal

  1. Raise the vehicle. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  2. Inspect the brake caliper assembly. See BRAKE CALIPER ADJUSTMENT  under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS.
    3. CAUTION: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic's wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from it's mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.
  3. Remove the front brake caliper assembly, relocate the brake caliper to the side. See FRONT BRAKE CALIPER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  4. Inspect the brake pads. See BRAKE PAD INSPECTION  in DISC BRAKE SYSTEM under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  5. Remove the front brake pads from the mounting bracket, inboard brake pad shown. See Figure .
  6. Inspect the brake hardware. See FRONT DISC BRAKE MOUNTING & HARDWARE INSPECTION  in DISC BRAKE SYSTEM under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  7. Remove the brake pad retaining clips from the mounting bracket, inboard brake pad shown. See Figure .
  8. Remove the brake caliper mounting bracket retaining bolts, lower bolt shown. See Figure .
  9. Remove the brake caliper mounting bracket.
  10. Remove the guide pin seals from the brake caliper mounting bracket.
  11. Inspect the brake rotor. See BRAKE ROTOR SURFACE & WEAR INSPECTION  in DISC BRAKE SYSTEM under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
