Park Brake Cables: Installation

  1. Install the front cable through the vehicle. Install the rubber grommet by firmly pressing it into the cowl.
  2. Connect the cable to the lever retainer. Connect the front cable to the lever.
  3. Install the release handle and the cable. See PARK BRAKE RELEASE HANDLE ASSEMBLY  .
  4. Connect the front cable to the rear cables. Remove the pin from the lever. Move the lever to the FULL up position.
  5. Measure the threads on the equalizer. Adjust the threads to the following specifications:
    • Passenger/Cargo to 0.511" (13 mm)
    • Cutaway/Upfitters to 0.826" (21 mm)
  6. Verify that the vehicle will hold position with the brake lever depressed. If additional adjustments need to be made, see PARKING BRAKE ADJUSTMENT  .


  1. Install the rear cable to the vehicle. Connect the rear cable to the backing plate retainer. Connect the rear brake shoes to the backing plate.
  2. Connect the front cable to the rear cables.
  3. Remove the pin from the lever. See Figure . Place the lever to the FULL up position.
  4. Measure the threads of the equalizer. Adjust the threads to the following specifications:
    • Passenger/Cargo to 0.511" (13 mm)
    • Cutaway/Upfitters to 0.826" (21 mm)
  5. Verify that the vehicle will hold the position with the brake lever depressed. If additional adjustments need to be made, see PARKING BRAKE ADJUSTMENT  .
