Drum Brake Adjusting Screw: Installation

  1. Lubricate the brake shoe backing plate, the adjusting screw threads, socket and socket face with a thin coat of high temperature silicone lubricant.
    2. CAUTION: Do not interchange the right and left adjusting screws.
  2. Install the adjusting screw assembly and the adjusting screw spring on the brake shoes. The coils of the adjusting screw spring must not touch the adjusting screw. Install the brake shoes on the backing plate. See Figure .
  3. Install the strut spring on the park brake strut. See Figure . Install the park brake strut.
  4. Install the actuator lever and the lever pivot. See Figure . Install the actuator lever return spring.
  5. Install the hold down pins. See Figure . Install the hold down springs.
  6. Install the brake shoe guide. Install the brake shoe return springs.
  7. Install the brake drum. See BRAKE DRUM  .
  8. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Tighten to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Adjust the brakes. See DRUM BRAKE ADJUSTMENT  . Lower the vehicle.
