Backing Plate Installation

  1. Install the backing plate. Install the rear wheel hub. See appropriate REAR SUSPENSION article in SUSPENSION. Install the parking brake cable to the backing plate.
  2. Install the wheel cylinder. See WHEEL CYLINDERS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Install the universal spring.
  3. Install the brake shoes. See REAR BRAKE SHOES  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Adjust the rear drum brakes. See DRUM BRAKE ADJUSTMENT  under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS. Install the brake drum. See REAR BRAKE DRUM  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  4. Bleed the brake hydraulic system. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM  . Adjust the parking brake. See PARKING BRAKE ADJUSTMENT  under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS.
  5. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Lower the vehicle.
