Drum Brake Adjustment

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Remove the rear wheels and tires.
  2. Remove the rear drums. See REAR BRAKE DRUM  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Set the Drum-to-Brake Shoe Clearance Gage (J-21177-A) so that the gage contacts the inside diameter of the drum at the widest point.
  4. Position the gage over the shoes at the widest point.
  5. Turn the adjuster nut until the shoes just contact the gage.
  6. Repeat steps  2 - 5 for the other rear brake assembly.
  7. Install the rear drums. See REAR BRAKE DRUM  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  8. Install the rear wheels and tires. Lower the vehicle.
