Park Brake Shoes: Installation

  1. Install the park brake shoes to the support plate. See Figure .
  2. Connect the park brake shoe retaining springs.
  3. Install the support plate and park brake shoe assembly to the backing plate.
  4. Install the index lever and spring assembly between the shoes.
  5. Install the backing plate, support plate, index lever and spring, and park brake shoe assembly to the vehicle. See Figure .
  6. Install the support plate washers and bolts. Tighten the bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  7. Install the tension arm of the spring to the index lever. See Figure .
  8. Install the transmission yoke to the transmission.
  9. Install the transmission yoke bolt to the automatic transmission or nut to the manual transmission.
  10. Install the drum. See PARK BRAKE DRUM  .
  11. Adjust the park brake. See PARK BRAKE ADJUSTMENT  under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION.
