Park Brake Shoes: Removal

- Raise and support the vehicle. Remove the rear wheels and tires. Relieve the park brake system tension at the equalizer assembly.
- Remove the rear caliper. See REAR BRAKE CALIPER . Remove the rear rotor. See REAR BRAKE ROTOR . Disconnect and remove the rear park brake cable from the bracket at the rear wheel. See REAR PARK BRAKE CABLE .
- Remove the return springs. See Fig 1 . Remove the tension spring. Separate the adjuster from the front brake shoe.
- Remove the hold-down spring and the pin from the front shoe. Remove the front shoe.
- Separate the adjuster from the rear brake shoe. Remove the adjuster and the adjuster strut. Disassemble the adjuster.
- Remove the hold-down spring and the pin from the rear shoe. Separate the rear shoe from the park brake shoe lever. Remove the rear shoe.
- Remove the park brake shoe lever from the park brake cable. Inspect the park brake hardware. See HARDWARE INSPECTION under PARK BRAKE in INSPECTIONS & ADJUSTMENTS.
