Drum Brake Backing Plate: Installation

  1. Install the backing plate. Install the wheel bearing/hub. See appropriate REAR article in SUSPENSION. Install the wheel cylinder. See WHEEL CYLINDER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Install the park brake cable to the backing plate. See REAR PARK BRAKE CABLE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Install the brake shoes. See BRAKE SHOES  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  4. Adjust the drum brakes. See ADJUSTMENT  under DRUM BRAKES in ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS.
  5. Install the brake drum. See BRAKE DRUM  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  6. Bleed the brake hydraulic system. See MANUAL BLEEDING  under BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM.
  7. Adjust the park brake. See DRUM PARK BRAKE ADJUSTMENT  under PARK BRAKE in ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS. Install the tire and wheel. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Lower vehicle.
