Brake Shoes: Installation

  1. Apply Lubriplate(R) Lubricant, GM P/N 1050109, Canadian P/N 5264008, or the equivalent, to the metal contact points on the backing plate and the adjuster strut. Assemble the adjuster strut.
  2. Install the following components:
    • The adjuster strut
    • The park brake lever
    • The 2 C-shaped park brake lever washers
    • The rear shoe
  3. Connect the park brake cable to the park brake lever.
  4. Install the rear shoe. Install the adjuster lever and the adjuster spring to the front shoe. Install the front shoe.
  5. Install the anchor spring.
  6. Install the lower return spring. Install the upper return spring.
  7. Adjust the brake shoes. See ADJUSTMENT  under DRUM BRAKES in ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS. Adjust the park brake cable. See DRUM PARK BRAKE ADJUSTMENT  under PARK BRAKE in ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS. Install the brake drum. See BRAKE DRUM  . Install tire and wheel. Lower the vehicle.
