Converter Housing/Front Support Module Installation

NOTE: During reassembly, use oil-soluble grease with a low melting point (petrolatum or equivalent) to temporarily retain parts, butt seal rings, scarf-cut seal rings and hook-type seal rings.

Install NEW main housing/separator plate gasket onto main housing. Attach a sling to converter housing. Apply petrolatum to 3 seal rings on rear of front support.
Using a hoist, lift and position torque converter housing/front support module onto main housing, aligning on guide bolts. Lower converter housing/front support module over turbine shaft and onto main housing. Tap converter housing until it seats fully on main housing. Remove sling and hoist.
CAUTION: Bolts used to install torque converter housing and rear cover to the main housing are similar in size and color; however, the rear cover bolts are shorter than torque converter housing bolts. Always install bolts in correct location to avoid main housing damage.
Remove 2 guide bolts from main housing. If equipped with SAE No. 2 or No. 3 converter housing, install 15 bolts (1), then install 5 remaining bolts (2). See Figure. Tighten bolts to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
On direct-mount torque converter housings, install 18 bolts (1), one bolt (2), and remaining bolt (3). See Figure. Tighten bolts to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
