Torque Converter & Converter Housing/Front Support Module

- Position transmission on repair stand so front of torque converter housing is upward. Attach a sling to torque converter. Attach hoist to sling and raise torque converter from converter housing. Place torque converter onto workbench.NOTE: Bolts used to install torque converter housing and rear cover to the main housing are similar in size and color; however, the rear cover bolts are shorter than torque converter housing bolts. Keep all bolts, nuts and washers with their respective component to avoid installation and operating problems.
- For SAE No. 2 or No. 3 torque converter housings, first remove all 15 bolts (1) and then the 5 bolts (2). See Fig 1.
- For direct-mount torque converter housings, first remove 18 bolts (1) and then 2 remaining bolts (2 and 3). See Fig 2.
- Attach a sling to the converter housing. Attach a hoist to the sling. Remove converter housing/front support module from main housing and turbine shaft. Place assembly on workbench. Remove main housing/separator plate gasket.
