Rear Ball Bearing

NOTE: This procedure applies only to 1000 series 4WD transmissions.

Position transmission so rear of transmission is facing upward. If equipped, remove oil seal assembly from output shaft bore.
Rotate selector shaft to full clockwise position using a wrench on selector shaft flats. See Fig 1. Using a Spanner Nut Wrench (J-43769) or equivalent, remove output nut from output shaft.
On all models, remove retaining ring from below output shaft nut.
Using a 3-Leg Puller (J-43910 and J-24420-B) or equivalent, place foot of each leg between 2 bearing balls. Twist each leg until foot of each leg is forced under the bearing races. Adjust center screw of puller and each leg nut until the puller assembly is perpendicular to rear face of main housing. Continue to tighten puller center screw until ball bearing assembly is dislodged. Remove puller assembly and selective spacer.
