C3 Clutch

CAUTION: DO NOT install special tools onto the gear thrust plate rivets of the C3 clutch backplate assembly. The rivets will be damaged.
  1. Ensure front of main housing is facing upward. Install Bar & Stud Assembly (J-24204-2) or equivalent, and C3/C4 Piston Spring Compressor (J-44530) or equivalent, into main housing. See Fig 1. Ensure bar and stud assembly tool is not touching gear thrust plate rivets on C3 clutch backplate.
  2. Compress piston return spring assemblies until a gap is visible below retaining ring. See Fig 1. Remove retaining ring. Remove special tools from main housing and remove C3 clutch backplate.
  3. Remove 4 C3 clutch friction plates and 3 reaction plates. Remove, as a unit, C3 spring plate and 3 piston return spring assemblies. Remove 3 piston return spring assemblies from C3 spring plate.
