C3 Clutch

CAUTION:
DO NOT install special tools onto the gear thrust plate rivets of the C3 clutch backplate assembly. The rivets will be damaged.
- Ensure front of main housing is facing upward. Install Bar & Stud Assembly (J-24204-2) or equivalent, and C3/C4 Piston Spring Compressor (J-44530) or equivalent, into main housing. See Fig 1. Ensure bar and stud assembly tool is not touching gear thrust plate rivets on C3 clutch backplate.
- Compress piston return spring assemblies until a gap is visible below retaining ring. See Fig 1. Remove retaining ring. Remove special tools from main housing and remove C3 clutch backplate.
- Remove 4 C3 clutch friction plates and 3 reaction plates. Remove, as a unit, C3 spring plate and 3 piston return spring assemblies. Remove 3 piston return spring assemblies from C3 spring plate.
