Rotating Clutch Housing Tone Wheel Replacement

- From outside of rotating clutch housing, grind off stakes holding tone wheel in place. Position rotating clutch housing on a press so front side of housing is facing downward.
- Install Tone Wheel Driver (J-43768) or equivalent, onto tone wheel. See Fig 1. Apply pressure to tool with press and press tone wheel from rotating clutch housing.
- To install tone wheel, turn rotating clutch housing over, so front end is facing upward. Align tone wheel so outside edge (cupped edge) is facing upward. Position tone wheel and press into place with tone wheel driver and a press.
- Mark 4 evenly spaced locations around outer edge of rotating clutch housing for new stakes to hold tone wheel in place. Align Tone Wheel Staker (J-43767) or equivalent, so its prongs are facing downward at 2 of the staking locations. See Fig 2. Install tone wheel driver over Tone Wheel Staker. Apply up to 9 tons of pressure to properly stake tone wheel in place, starting at lower pressures and working up.CAUTION: Too much pressure will distort tone wheel. Too little pressure will result in improper staking.
- Ensure tone wheel is properly staked. Remove assembly from the press. Remove tools by tapping lightly. Reposition Tone Wheel Staker so its 2 prongs are located at 2 other positions. Repeat above process to apply 2 additional stakes.
