Rear Cover Assembly: Reassembly

NOTE: During reassembly, use oil-soluble grease with a low melting point (petrolatum or equivalent) to temporarily retain parts, butt seal rings, scarf-cut seal rings and hook-type seal rings.
  1. Position rear cover so rear (small end) of cover is facing downward. If equipped, install output tone wheel. Gently tap needle bearing assembly into rear cover. Install retaining ring on top of needle bearing.
  2. Install seal rings onto C5 clutch piston. Lubricate seal rings with petrolatum. Ensure small lip of smaller seal ring is installed away from C5 clutch piston. See Figure, Figure, Figure or Figure .
  3. With rear end of cover downward, align tang on C5 clutch piston with tang hole in rear cover. Install piston into rear cover.
  4. If equipped with a tachograph plug, position rear cover with rear end upward. Install washer onto tachograph plug, then install tachograph plug into rear cover. Tighten tachograph plug to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
