Selector Shaft & Detent Lever Reassembly

  1. Install a NEW selector shaft seal onto Selector Shaft Seal Installer (J-43909) or equivalent, and drive seal into main housing. Ensure seal is seated on bottom of bore.
  2. If equipped with park pawl apply assembly, place nib of the apply assembly through keyhole of detent lever and rotate apply assembly 180 degrees to reconnect. Place roller end of park pawl apply assembly into main housing. See Figure.
  3. Ensure notched side of detent lever is facing upward. Position guide hole for manual selector valve pin forward. Ensure selector shaft hole in detent lever is aligned with selector shaft seal.
  4. Slide selector shaft through selector shaft seal, detent lever, and selector shaft nut, and then into main housing.
  5. Install detent lever onto flats of selector shaft. Install selector shaft nut onto shaft. Install a crowfoot with a torque wrench onto nut. While holding flats of selector shaft, tighten nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
    CAUTION: DO NOT mar main housing surface around spring pin. An unmarred surface is required to maintain seal between control valve assembly and main housing.
  6. Install spring pin into a Selector Shaft Spring Pin Installer (J-43766) or equivalent. Gently drive spring pin into main housing. Ensure pin is installed to a height of .335-.354" (8.50-9.00 mm).
