Control Valve Module: Reassembly

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Sierra, 2003 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, 2003 Chevrolet Cab & Chassis Silverado, and 2002 GMC Sierra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Solenoid "O" rings are Brown in color. The "O" ring installed first is slightly larger than second "O" ring.
  1. Position main valve body assembly on workbench so worm-hole side is upward. Align separator plate with main valve body dowel pins and install. Align shift valve body assembly with main valve body dowel pins and install shift valve body onto separator plate. See Figure.
  2. Position control valve assembly on workbench so main valve body is upward. Install 14 bolts holding main valve body and shift valve body assemblies together. Tighten main valve body bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Position control valve assembly with shift valve body upward. Install the 2 solenoid "O" rings onto "C" ON/OFF shift solenoid (identified with P/N 29536833 printed on its side), installing slightly larger "O" ring first.
  4. Align "C" ON/OFF shift solenoid so electrical connector faces nearest side of assembly. Push solenoid into valve body bore until it seats. Install solenoid retainer. See Figure.
  5. Carefully turn control valve assembly over so main valve body is upward. Install solenoid "O" ring onto "A" trim solenoid (P/N 29533074). Install solenoid "O" ring onto "B" trim solenoid (P/N 29533075).
  6. In the bores of main valve body, install spring, "A" trim valve, second spring (if equipped), and trim gain valve. Install spring, "B" trim valve, and trim gain valve. Install "A" trim solenoid and "B" trim solenoid so electrical connectors are facing upward. See Figure.
  7. Align 2 accumulator plugs so spring bores are facing upward. Install 2 accumulator plugs and springs. Push "A" and "B" trim solenoids into their bores until solenoids seat.
  8. Align A/B solenoid bracket with main valve body dowel pin. Install solenoid bracket so "A" and "B" trim solenoids and accumulator plugs and springs are retained against valve body. See Figure. Install 3 bolts through A/B solenoid bracket and tighten the bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  9. Install slightly larger solenoid "O" ring onto "E" ON/OFF shift solenoid (P/N 29536833), then install second, smaller "O" ring. Install "E" ON/OFF shift solenoid into main valve body so electrical connector faces upward. Install retainer. See Figure. Repeat procedure for "D" ON/OFF shift solenoids (P/N 29536833).
  10. Install slightly larger solenoid "O" ring onto "F" PWM trim solenoid, then install second, smaller "O" ring. Install "F" PWM trim spring, valve and sleeve. Align "F" PWM trim solenoid with electrical connector upward. Push solenoid into main valve body bore until solenoid seats. Install solenoid retainer. See Figure.
  11. Align bolt holes and alignment tab of pressure switch assembly with holes in main valve body. Install pressure switch assembly. Install reverse signal tube into main valve body.
  12. Install 6 bolts and one slightly longer bolt that hold reverse signal tube and pressure switch assembly onto main valve body. See Figure. Tighten bolts to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
