Control Valve Module: Disassembly

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Sierra, 2003 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, 2003 Chevrolet Cab & Chassis Silverado, and 2002 GMC Sierra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove 6 bolts and the single bolt retaining reverse signal tube and pressure switch assembly to valve body. Remove reverse signal tube and pressure switch assembly. See Fig 1.
  2. Remove "F" PWM trim solenoid retainer, solenoid, sleeve, valve, and spring. See Fig 3. Remove "O" rings from "F" trim solenoid.
  3. Remove "D" ON/OFF shift solenoid retainer, solenoid, and "O" rings. See Fig 3. Remove "E" ON/OFF shift solenoid retainer, solenoid, and "O" rings.
  4. Remove 3 bolts holding A/B solenoid bracket to main valve body. Remove A/B solenoid bracket, 2 accumulator springs, and 2 accumulator plugs. See Fig 4.
    CAUTION: DO NOT damage solenoid(s) when turning control valve assembly over.
  5. Remove "A" trim solenoid, valve, spring, "A" trim valve and spring. See Fig 4. Remove "B" trim solenoid, valve, spring, "B" trim valve and spring. Remove "O" rings from A/B trim solenoids.
  6. Position control valve assembly on workbench so shift valve body is facing upward. Remove "C" ON/OFF shift solenoid retainer, solenoid and "O" rings. See Fig 2.
  7. Position control valve assembly on the workbench so main valve body is facing upward. Remove 14 bolts holding shift valve body and main valve body together. Stand control valve assembly on its side, then reinstall 4 bolts partially threaded into shift valve body (protruding from main valve body). Gently tap bolt heads to separate main valve body from shift valve body.
  8. Position control valve assembly so shift valve body is upward. Separate shift valve body, separator plate, and main valve body assembly. See Fig 1.
