Removal & Installation: Engine: Installation

NOTE: Required Tools: Engine Lift Bracket (J-36857).

Install the engine mount brackets to the engine block. Tighten the engine mount bolts to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install the Engine Lift Bracket and a length of chain, using GM P/N 23503910 or equivalent attaching bolt, to the rear of the right cylinder head and the front of the left cylinder head. Remove the engine assembly from the engine stand.
Install the flywheel on the crankshaft and tighten the flywheel bolts to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install the left and right engine mounts to the frame. Tighten the engine mount bolts to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install the engine assembly in the vehicle. Lower the engine assembly on to the engine mount brackets.
Install the engine mount through-bolt for the left side and tighten the through-bolt to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install the engine mount through-bolt for the right side and tighten the through-bolt to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Remove the lifting device from the engine assembly. Raise the vehicle.
The torque converter must be flush onto the flywheel and rotate freely by hand. Install the bolts that secure the transmission to the engine. Tighten the studs and the bolts to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install the bolts securing the torque converter to the engine flywheel. First tighten all the bolts finger tight in order to insure proper converter seating then tighten the bolts to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
Install the converter cover to the transmission. Tighten bolts to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install the starter assembly to the engine block. Install the electrical connection for the block heater. Install the ground straps from the frame to the engine block. Install the transmission oil cooler lines to the retainer. Install the engine oil cooler lines to the engine block. Lower the vehicle.
Install the lower intake manifold to the engine block. See INTAKE MANIFOLD . Install the exhaust manifolds to the cylinder heads. See EXHAUST MANIFOLD . Install the turbocharger on the engine block. See TURBOCHARGER . Install the engine lift bracket. See ENGINE LIFT BRACKET . Install the generator mounting bracket to the engine block. Install the wiring harness to the left and right sides of the engine assembly. See Figure and Figure .
Install the radiator hoses to the engine assembly. Install the radiator support with A/C condenser to the vehicle. Install the ground strap bolts to the right and left fenders. Connect the forward lamp harness electrical connector. Connect the A/C condenser lines to the A/C condenser. Install radiator in the vehicle. Install the transmission oil cooler (if equipped). Install the transmission oil cooler (if equipped).
Install the grille on the vehicle. Install the front bumper on the vehicle. Refill the cooling system. See DRAINING & FILLING COOLING SYSTEM . Install the batteries in the vehicle. Recharge the A/C system. See RECOVERY/EVACUATION & RECHARGING in GENERAL SERVICING PROCEDURES article in HVAC. Install the hood assembly on the vehicle. Tighten bolts to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Fill the engine crankcase with the proper type and quantity of engine oil. See ENGINE OIL AND OIL FILTER . Install a scan tool and make the required adjustments. Perform the TDC offset adjustment procedure. See FUEL INJECTION PUMP TDC OFFSET ADJUSTMENT under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS. Install the engine cover in the vehicle.
