Test D: Wipers Inoperative In All Modes

- If wiper/washer system description and operation, and preliminary inspection has been reviewed, and necessary inspections have been performed, go to next step. See DESCRIPTION , OPERATION & PRELIMINARY INSPECTION under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Cycle wiper/washer switch through all switch positions. If wiper/washer system does not operate normally, go to next step. If wiper/washer system operates normally, concern my be intermittent. For aid in diagnosing intermittents, see PRELIMINARY INSPECTION under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Disconnect windshield wiper motor 6-pin harness connector. Windshield wiper motor is located in cowling at left front of engine compartment. Using a test light connected to ground, probe windshield wiper motor harness connector terminal "D" (Brown wire), windshield wiper switch pulse delay signal circuit. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 6 .
- Using a test light connected to ground, probe windshield wiper motor harness connector terminal "B" (Yellow wire), accessory voltage supply circuit. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 8 .
- Connect test light to ground circuit terminal in wiper motor harness connector and the accessory voltage supply circuit terminal. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 9 . If test light illuminates, go to step 13 .
- Test windshield wiper switch low circuit for an open or short to ground. If condition is found, repair as necessary and go to step 15 . If no condition is found, go to next step.
- Test accessory voltage supply circuit to windshield wiper/washer switch for an open or short to ground. If condition is found, repair as necessary and go to step 15 . If no condition is found, go to step 10 .
- Repair necessary voltage supply circuit for an open or high resistance. After repair is complete go to step 15 .
- Repair windshield wiper motor ground circuit for an open or high resistance. After repair is complete go to step 15 .
- Test windshield wiper motor high speed circuit for a short to ground. If condition is found, repair as necessary and go to step 15 . If no condition is found, go to next step.
- Inspect windshield wiper/washer switch for poor connections. If condition is found, repair as necessary and go to step 15 . If no condition is found, go to next step.
- Replace windshield wiper/washer switch. See WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to step 15 .
- Inspect windshield wiper motor for poor connections. If condition is found, repair as necessary and go to step 15 . If no condition is found, go to next step.
- Replace the windshield wiper motor. See WIPER MOTOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to next step.
- Operate wiper/washer system to verify repairs. If system operates normally, testing is complete. If system does not operate normally, go to step 3 .
