Timing Gear Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Saturn Vue and 2002 Saturn Vue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: The camshaft gear bolts are not reusable, it is a Torque-To-Yield (TTY) bolt, and must be discarded to prevent premature failure.
  1. Install the camshaft gears and new bolts.
    • Align the correct camshaft with the corresponding number on the gear.
    • Camshaft gears 1 and 2 are interchangeable and camshaft gears 3 and 4 are interchangeable.
  2. Use the Timing Belt Alignment Kit (J-42069-1 and J-42069-2) camshaft locks to lock gears when torquing camshaft gears bolts. Tighten the NEW camshaft gear bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Install timing belt. See TIMING BELT REMOVAL & INSTALLATION .
