Vehicle Leads/Pulls

  1. Did you review the General Description and perform the necessary inspections? See DESCRIPTION  and VISUAL/PHYSICAL INSPECTION  . Go to next step.
  2. Road test the vehicle in order to verify the complaint. Select a smooth level surface to perform the test. If vehicle operates normally, system is okay. If system does not operate normally, go to next step.
  3. Inspect the tire/wheel assemblies for correct tire pressure and correct tire size. If tire/wheel assemblies pressure and size are not correct, repair condition and retest for normal operation.
  4. See appropriate ELECTRONIC - LEVEL CONTROL - "G" & "H" BODIES article. After completing trim height inspection and adjustment. If trim height is not correct, repair and recheck system for normal operation.
  5. Inspect suspension for loose or damaged components. Repair as necessary. Tighten suspension components to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  6. Inspect wheel bearing play. Adjust as necessary. See WHEEL BEARING  under ADJUSTMENTS and INSPECTIONS.
  7. Inspect the brake system for brake drag. See BRAKES DRAG .
  8. Inspect the steering gear valve for an unbalance. If this is the cause, steering effort will be very light in the direction of the lead and effort will be heavy in the opposite direction with the vehicle parked on a smooth level surface. If symptom is present, replace steering gear. See POWER STEERING article.
  9. Inspect the wheel alignment. See SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES article in WHEEL ALIGNMENT. Adjust wheel alignment according to specification.
  10. Switch front tires. Road test vehicle. If vehicle pulls in opposite direction, switch remaining tires. If vehicle still pulls, replace tires.
  11. Road test vehicle to verify system repair. If condition is still present, go to step  2 .
