Removal & Installation: Transaxle: Installation

  1. Install the 6 transaxle to engine retaining bolts (1, 2 and 3). See Fig 1 . Tighten each bolt to its specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .

  2. Install the rear transaxle mounting bracket to the transaxle with the 3 bolts. See Figure . Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  3. Install the front transaxle mount to the transaxle with the 2 bolts. See Figure . Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  4. Install the transmission support with the 4 bolts (1 and 2) on the vehicle. See Figure . Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  5. Install the front mount through bolt. See Figure . Tighten bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  6. Install the rear transaxle mount to the transmission support. See Figure .
  7. Install the 3 nuts and bolts. Tighten nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  8. Install the rear transaxle mount through bolt. See Figure . Tighten bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  9. Install the left transaxle mounting bracket and 3 bolts. See Figure . Tighten bolts to specification bolts. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  10. Install the left mount to the body. See Figure . Tighten bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  11. Install the left mount through bolt and nut. Tighten bolt and nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
    NOTE: The gray colored bolt must be installed first. This bolt is to insure proper alignment for the other 5 bolts.
  12. Install the 6 torque converter bolts. See Figure . Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  13. Install the flywheel inspection cover.
  14. Lower the jack from the transaxle.
  15. Install the starter assembly in the vehicle. See appropriate STARTERS article in ELECTRICAL.
  16. Install the left and right drive shafts. See appropriate AXLE SHAFTS article in DRIVELINE/AXLES.
  17. Install the exhaust pipe in the vehicle.
  18. Install the front wheels.
  19. Install the drain plug with NEW gasket. Tighten drain plug to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  20. Install the right and left lower splash shield.
  21. Lower the vehicle.
  22. Remove the engine support fixture.
  23. Connect the transaxle oil cooler pipes to the transaxle. See Figure . Tighten nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  24. Install the oil filler tube with a NEW "O" ring into the transaxle.
  25. Install the 2 bolts with the oil cooler pipe clamp to the transaxle assembly. See Figure . Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  26. Connect the shift cable to the transaxle, then install the nut. Tighten nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  27. Connect the shift cable to the transaxle, then install the clip.
  28. Connect the shift cable to the cable bracket, then install the bracket bolt. Tighten bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  29. Connect the 3 electrical connectors to the transaxle.
  30. Connect the oxygen sensor electrical connector. See HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR 2 under SENSORS & SWITCHES in REMOVAL & INSTALLATION - VIBE article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  31. Connect the 2 wire harness brackets, then install the 2 bolts. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  32. Install the 2 bolts and ground cables to the transaxle. See Fig 2 . Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .

  33. Install the cruise control servo in the vehicle. See appropriate CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEMS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  34. Install the battery tray and the 4 bolts. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  35. Install the battery tray and the 4 bolts. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  36. Install the battery. Connect the positive and negative battery cables.
  37. Install the air cleaner case assembly.
  38. Install the hood on the vehicle.
  39. Fill the transaxle to appropriate level. See DRAINING & REFILLING under LUBRICATION in SERVICING - VIBE (FWD) article.
