Draining Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2009 Saturn Vue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
    WARNING: To avoid being burned, do not remove the radiator cap or surge tank cap while the engine is hot. The cooling system will release scalding fluid and steam under pressure if radiator cap or surge tank cap is removed while the engine and radiator are still hot.
  1. Remove the left headlamp. Refer to Headlamp Replacement
  2. Remove the front bumper fascia air deflector. Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Air Deflector Replacement
  3. Place a drain pan under the left front corner of the vehicle.
  4. Fig 1: Surge Tank Outlet Hose

  5. Remove the air separator bolt (3) from the vehicle.
  6. Reposition the surge tank outlet hose clamp (1).
  7. Reposition the surge tank outlet hose (2) and air separator toward the center of the vehicle to provide a direct coolant drain path.
  8. Remove the surge tank outlet hose from the air separator.
  9. Drain the coolant.
