Installation Procedure

  1. Clean any gasket material from the control valve body cover and inspect the gasket mounting surface.
  2. Install RTV sealer Saturn P/N 89020326 onto the control valve body cover.

  4. Install the control valve body cover onto the transaxle case.
  5. IMPORTANT: Use LOCTITE™ 242 thread sealer on ALL bolt threads.
  6. Install the 9 control valve body cover bolts/screws hand tight.

    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  8. Tighten the 9 control valve body bolts/screws in the sequence shown.

    Tighten:  Tighten the control valve body cover bolts/screws to 13 N.m (10 lb in).

  10. Install the transaxle oil cooler line assembly to the transaxle.
  11. Install the transaxle oil cooler line assembly nut.

    Tighten:  Tighten the transaxle oil cooler line nut to 7 N.m (62 lb in)

  13. Install the front pitch restrictor and the through-bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the front pitch restrictor bolts to 50 N.m (37 ft lb)

  15. Install the left-hand splash shield.
  16. Install the left wheel and the tire assembly.
  17. Install the wheel nuts and tighten in a criss-cross pattern.

    Tighten:  Tighten the wheel nuts to 125 N.m (92 lb-ft)

  18. Lower the vehicle.
  19. NOTE: Saturn automatic transaxle fluid (ATF), P/N 21005966 and P/N 21019223, is not compatible with this transaxle. If Saturn ATF is used, transaxle damage will result. This transaxle uses Saturn T-IV fluid P/N 22689186.
  20. Add fluid to the transaxle. Refer to Transmission Fluid Replacement  procedure located in this service manual.
