Removal Procedure

In Cautions and Notices.
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in Air Bag Restraint Systems.
- Remove the inflator module. Refer to REMOVAL & INSTALLATION (DRIVER-SIDE) in Air Bag Restraint Systems.
- Remove the horn plunger from the steering column by pressing inward to the stop and rotating horn plunger 90 degrees.
- Disconnect the steering wheel electrical connector.
- Remove the retaining nut which secures the steering wheel to the steering wheel shaft.
NOTE: When removing the steering wheel, use only the specified steering wheel puller. Do not hammer on the end of the steering column shaft. Hammering could loosen the plastic injections which maintain the steering column rigidity.
- Install J 1859-A and J-36541-A to the steering wheel.
- Remove the steering wheel using J 1859-A and J-36541-A.
