DEFINITION: This table diagnoses the rear wipers are always on when the rear wiper/washer switch is in the OFF position.
1 Did you review the Rear Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation  and perform the necessary inspections? Go to Step 2  Go to Symptoms - Wiper/Washer Systems

  1. Turn the ignition ON, engine OFF.
  2. Verify that the rear wipers are always on when the wiper/washer switch is in the OFF position.
Are the rear wipers always ON?
Go to Step 3  Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the wiper/washer switch.
  3. Turn the ignition ON, engine OFF.
Are the rear wipers always ON?
Go to Step 4  Go to Step 7

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the rear wiper relay 2.
  3. Turn the ignition ON, engine OFF.
Are the rear wipers always ON?
Go to Step 5  Go to Step 8

  1. Turn the ignition ON, engine OFF.
  2. Test the wiper motor feed circuit for a short to voltage at the wiper motor connector.
Does the circuit have a short to voltage condition?
Go to Step 9  Go to Step 6 
6 Replace the rear wiper motor. Refer to Wiper Motor Replacement .
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 13  -
7 Replace the rear wiper/washer switch. Refer to Wipers/Washer Switch Replacement .
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 13  -

  1. Disconnect the rear wiper motor.
  2. Turn the ignition ON, engine OFF.
  3. Test the wiper motor feed circuit for a short to voltage at the wiper motor connector.
Does the circuit have a short to voltage condition?
Go to Step 9  Go to Step 10 
9 Repair the short to voltage condition. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you complete the repair?
Go to Step 13  -
10
  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Test for a short to ground on the following circuits at the rear wiper relay connector:
    • Intermittent position circuit
    • Wiper relay ground circuit
Does either circuit have a short to ground condition?
Go to Step 11  Go to Step 12 
11 Repair the short to voltage condition. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you complete the repair?
Go to Step 13  -
12 Replace the rear wiper relay 2.
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 13  -
13 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
System OK Go to Step 3
