DEFINITION: This table diagnoses the washer pump inoperative and assumes that the wipers operate normally.
1 Did you review the Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation  and perform the necessary inspections? Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic Starting Point - Wiper/Washer Systems

  1. Turn the ignition ON, engine OFF.
  2. Place the washer switch in the wash position.
Do the washers operate normally?
Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect the washer pump.
  2. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  3. Connect a test lamp between washer pump control circuit and battery positive voltage.
  4. Place the washer switch in the wash position.
Does the test lamp illuminate when the washer switch is placed in the wash position?
Go to Step 5  Go to Step 4

  1. Disconnect the wiper/washer switch connector.
  2. Test for a high resistance or an open condition in the washer pump control circuit between the wiper/washer switch and the washer pump. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 10  Go to Step 6 
5 Test the washer pump feed circuit for a high resistance or an open condition. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 10  Go to Step 7 
6 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the wiper/washer switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 10  Go to Step 8 
7 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the washer pump. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 10  Go to Step 9 
8 Replace the wiper/washer switch. Refer to Wipers/Washer Switch Replacement .
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 10  -
9 Replace the washer pump. Refer to Washer Pump Replacement .
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 10  -
10 Operate the washers in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
System OK Go to Step 3
