Speedometer and/or Odometer Inaccurate or Inoperative

Schematic Reference: Instrument Cluster Schematics 
1 Did you review the Instrument Panel, Gages and Console Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections? Go to Step 2  Go to Symptoms - Instrument Panel, Gages and Console 
2 Verify that the speedometer and the odometer are inaccurate.
Does the system operate normally?
Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems Go to Step 3 
3 Using a scan tool, test for DTC P0500.
Does the scan tool register DTC P0500?
Go to DTC P0500 in Automatic Transmission - MU4, DTC P0500 in Automatic Transmission - MU5, DTC P0500 in Manual Transmission - MK5, DTC P0500 in Manual Transmission - MTN Go to Step 4

  1. Install the scan tool.
  2. Raise the drive wheels.
  3. Support the lower control arms so that the drive axles are in a horizontal (straight) position.
  4. Start and idle the engine.
  5. Place the transmission in gear.
  6. With the scan tool, observe the Vehicle Speed Sensor parameter in the Powertrain engine data list.
Does the vehicle speed sensor match the speedometer display?
Go to Step 5  Go to Step 6 
5 Does the odometer operate properly? Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems Go to Step 6 
6 Replace the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement .
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 7  -
7 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
System OK Go to Step 3
