Cruise Control Indicator Inoperative

1 Did you review the Cruise Control Description and Operation  and perform the necessary inspections? Go to Step 2  Go to Symptoms - Cruise Control

  1. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  2. Operate the cruise control switch to the ON position.
Does the cruise control indicator illuminate?
Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems Go to Step 3

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the cruise control module.
  3. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  4. Connect a fused jumper wire between cavity 5 of the cruise control module connector and ground.
Does the cruise control indicator illuminate?
Go to Step 4  Go to Step 8

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Operate the cruise control switch to the ON position and hold.
  3. Test for a high resistance or an open condition between cavity 11 of the cruise control module and ground.
Did you measure a high resistance or an open condition?
Go to Step 5  Go to Step 6 
5 Test the cruise control on-off switch for a high resistance or an open condition.
Did you measure a high resistance or an open condition?
Go to Step 7  Go to Step 9 
6 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the cruise control module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 12  Go to Step 10 
7 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the cruise control switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 12  Go to Step 11 
8 Repair the open in the cruise indicator circuit between the cruise control module connector and the GAUGE fuse. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you complete the repair?
Go to Step 12  -
9 Repair the open in the cruise control on-off circuit between the cruise control module connector and ground. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you complete the repair?
Go to Step 12  -
10 Replace the cruise control module. Refer to Cruise Control Module Replacement  in Steering Wheel and Column.
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 12  -
11 Replace the cruise control switch. Refer to Cruise Control Switch Replacement .
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 12  -
12 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
System OK Go to Step 3
