Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Apply sealant GM P/N 1052942 (Canadian P/N 10953466) at the rear main bearing cap and the engine block (1).
  2. Install the oil pan gasket.

  3. Install the oil pan.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  4. Install the oil pan bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  5. Install the left oil pan side bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

  6. Use the J 39505  in order to install the right oil pan side bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

  7. Use the jackstands to raise the frame to the original position
  8. Install the right side frame bolts and tighten the left side frame bolts.
  9. Remove the jackstands from the frame assembly.
  10. Install the right lower ball joint to the steering knuckle. Refer to LOWER BALL JOINT REPLACEMENT in Front Suspension.
  11. Install the right outer tie rod to the steering knuckle.
  12. Install the engine mount bracket with the engine mount to the oil pan. Refer to ENGINE MOUNT BRACKET REPLACEMENT  .
  13. Install the steering shaft intermediate pinch bolt. Refer to INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT REPLACEMENT in Steering Wheel and Column.
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Use the engine support fixture to lower the engine.
  16. Raise and the vehicle.
  17. Install the transaxle mount lower nuts.
  18. Install the engine mount lower nuts. Refer to ENGINE MOUNT REPLACEMENT  .
  19. Install the transaxle brace to the oil pan. Refer to TRANSAXLE BRACE .
  20. Install the starter motor. Refer to STARTER MOTOR in Starter.

  21. Connect the oil level sensor electrical connector.
  22. Install the 3-way catalytic converter pipe to the right exhaust manifold. Refer to CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACEMENT (3.1L) in Engine Exhaust.
  23. Install the A/C compressor. Refer to COMPRESSOR REPLACEMENT (3.1L) in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  24. Lower the vehicle.
  25. Remove the engine support fixture.
  26. Install the left and the right engine mount struts. Refer to ENGINE MOUNT STRUT REPLACEMENT  .
  27. Install the drive belt. Refer to DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT  .
  28. Fill the engine with new engine oil. Refer to ENGINE OIL AND OIL FILTER REPLACEMENT  .
  29. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PROCEDURE in Battery.
  30. Inspect for leaks.
