Test Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 GMC Sierra and 2004 Chevrolet Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. 2:  This step tests if the concern is active. You should hear a clicking sound when the HPL solenoid is commanded ON and OFF. Repeat the commands as necessary.
  2. 4:  The AF lock-off relay also supplies voltage to the low pressure lock-off (LPL) solenoid. An open circuit between the AF lock-off relay and the splice will cause P2665 to also set.
  3. 5:  This step verifies that the control module is providing ground to the HPL solenoid.
  4. 6:  This step tests if a ground is constantly being applied to the HPL solenoid.

1 Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check Alternative Fuels - Engine Controls? Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Alternative Fuels (Engine Controls)
  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Command the high pressure lock-off (HPL) solenoid ON and OFF with a scan tool.
  3. Listen for audible operation of the solenoid.
Does the HPL solenoid respond to the scan tool commands?
Go to Step 3  Go to Step 4
3
  1. Observe the Freeze Frame/Failure Records for this DTC.
  2. Turn OFF the ignition for 30 seconds.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records.
Did the DTC fail this ignition?
Go to Step 4  Go to Intermittent Conditions
  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect harness connector of the HPL solenoid. Refer to High Pressure Lock-Off (HPL) Solenoid Replacement .
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Probe the ignition voltage circuit of the HPL solenoid with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 5  Go to Step 9
  1. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit of the HPL solenoid and the ignition voltage circuit of the HPL solenoid.
  2. Command the HPL solenoid ON and OFF with a scan tool.
Does the test lamp turn ON and OFF with each command?
Go to Step 10  Go to Step 6
Does the test lamp remain illuminated with each command? Go to Step 8  Go to Step 7
7 Test the control circuit of the HPL solenoid for an open or for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems in the C/K Pickup Service Manual.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 14  Go to Step 11
8 Test the control circuit of the HPL solenoid for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems in the C/K Pickup Service Manual.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 14  Go to Step 13
9 Test the ignition voltage circuit for an open or short to ground. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems in the C/K Pickup Service Manual.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 14  Go to Fuel Lock-Off Relay Diagnosis
10 Inspect for poor connections at the HPL solenoid. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems in the C/K Pickup Service Manual.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 14  Go to Step 12
11 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the powertrain control module (PCM). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems in the C/K Pickup Service Manual.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 14  Go to Step 13
12 Replace the HPL solenoid. Refer to High Pressure Lock-Off (HPL) Solenoid Replacement .
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 14  -
13 Replace the PCM. Refer to Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Replacement in the C/K Pickup Service Manual.
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 14  -
