Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Pontiac Aztek and 2004 Buick Rendezvous. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the power steering reservoir bracket to the reservoir. Refer to Remote PS Fluid Reservoir Bracket Replacement (LY7) .
  2. Install the ECM retaining clip to the reservoir.
  3. Uncap the power steering reservoir and hoses.

  5. Install the power steering reservoir and bracket to the vehicle.

  7. Connect the power steering reservoir return hose to the power steering reservoir.
  8. Connect the power steering pump inlet hose to the power steering reservoir.
  9. Position the reservoir in the vehicle.

    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  11. Install the power steering reservoir mounting stud bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the power steering reservoir mounting stud bolt to 25 N.m (19 lb ft).

  12. Install the power steering pressure pipe/hose to the power steering reservoir bracket. Refer to Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement (LA1)  or Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement (LY7) .
  13. Connect the ECM wire harness to the ECM wire harness clip on the reservoir.

  15. Use the floor jack to raise the right side of the frame and powertrain.
  16. Install the right rear frame-to-body bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the right rear frame-to-body bolt to 240 N.m (177 lb ft).

  17. Install the right front frame-to-body bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the right rear frame-to-body bolt to 155 N.m (114 lb ft).

  18. Remove the floor jack from the frame and the powertrain.
  19. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  20. Install the inner fender liner. Refer to Front Fender Liner Replacement in Exterior Trim.
  21. Install the right front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  22. Lower the vehicle.
  23. Fill the power steering reservoir with power steering fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  24. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Bleeding the Power Steering System .
  25. Inspect the system for leaks. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Leaks .
