Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Pontiac Aztek and 2004 Buick Rendezvous. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Connect the power steering reservoir outlet hose to the power steering reservoir.
  2. Install the power steering reservoir, reservoir bracket, and both hoses to the vehicle.

    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  4. Install the power steering reservoir mounting stud bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the power steering reservoir mounting stud bolt to 25 N.m (19 lb ft).

  5. Install the power steering pressure pipe/hose to the power steering reservoir bracket. Refer to Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement (LA1)  or Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement (LY7) .
  6. Connect the ECM wire harness to the ECM wire harness clip on the reservoir.

  8. Use the floor jack to raise the right side of the frame and powertrain.
  9. Install the right side frame-to-body bolts
  10. Remove the floor jack from the frame and powertrain.
  11. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  13. Use the utility stand to support the right side of the frame and powertrain.
  14. Remove the right side frame-to-body bolts
  15. Use the utility stand to lower the right side of the frame and powertrain.
  16. Uncap the hoses, pipes and pump.
  17. Connect the power steering reservoir inlet hose to the power steering pump.
  18. Connect the power steering reservoir return hose to the power steering pipe.
  19. Use the utility stand to raise the right side of the frame and powertrain.
  20. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  21. Install the right rear frame-to-body bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the right rear frame-to-body bolt to 240 N.m (177 lb ft).

  22. Install the right front frame-to-body bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the right rear frame-to-body bolt to 155 N.m (114 lb ft).

  23. Install the inner fender liner. Refer to Front Fender Liner Replacement in Exterior Trim.
  24. Install the right front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  25. Lower the vehicle.
  26. Fill the power steering reservoir with power steering fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  27. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Bleeding the Power Steering System .
  28. Inspect the system for leaks. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Leaks .
