Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Montana, 2002 Oldsmobile Silhouette, and 2002 Chevrolet Venture. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PROCEDURE .
  2. Remove the engine mount struts from the engine. Refer to ENGINE MOUNT STRUT REPLACEMENT - Left  and ENGINE MOUNT STRUT REPLACEMENT - Right .
  3. Install the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture .
  4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE .
  5. Remove the A/C compressor mounting bolts and set the compressor aside. Refer to COMPRESSOR REPLACEMENT .
  6. Disconnect the catalytic converter pipe from the engine right side exhaust manifold. Refer to CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACEMENT .
  7. Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
  8. Remove frame assembly.

  10. Remove the oil level sensor wiring harness connection.
  11. Remove the starter motor. Refer to STARTER MOTOR REPLACEMENT .
  12. Remove the transaxle brace from the oil pan. Refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION BRACE REPLACEMENT .
  13. Remove the engine mount bracket with the engine mount from the oil pan. Refer to Engine Mount Bracket Replacement .

    Important:  Use the J 39505  in order to remove the engine right side oil pan side bolts.

  14. Remove the oil pan and the oil pan gasket. Refer to OIL PAN REMOVAL .
  15. Clean the oil pan and the engine block gasket surface. Refer to OIL PAN CLEANING AND INSPECTION .
