Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Disassemble - Off Vehicle

Tools Required

J 23653-SIR Steering Column Lock Plate Compressor
J 42137 Steering Column Lock Plate Compressor Adapter

CAUTION: Refer to SIR CAUTION .

Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
Let the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil hang freely after removal.
Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to INFLATABLE RESTRAINT STEERING WHEEL MODULE COIL - DISASSEMBLE - Off Vehicle .
Compress the shaft lock shield assembly using J 23653-SIR and J 42137.

Remove the bearing retainer (1).
Remove J 23653-SIR.
Discard the bearing retainer (1).
Remove the shaft lock shield assembly (2).
Remove the turn signal cancel cam assembly (3).
Remove the upper bearing spring (4).
Remove the upper bearing inner race seat (5).
Remove the inner race (6).
