Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Assemble - Off Vehicle

Tools Required

J 23653-SIR Steering Column Lock Plate Compressor
J 42137 Steering Column Lock Plate Compressor Adapter

Lubricate and install the inner race (1).
Install the upper bearing inner race seat (2).
Install the upper bearing spring (3).
Lubricate the brass surface of the turn signal cancel cam assembly (4) with lithium grease.
Install the turn signal cancel cam assembly (4).
Install the shaft lock assembly (5) onto the steering shaft assembly.
IMPORTANT: The bearing retainer must be firmly seated in the groove on the race and upper shaft assembly.
Install the new bearing retainer (1) onto the steering shaft.

Compress the shaft lock shield assembly using J 23653-SIR and J 42137.
Remove J 23653-SIR and J 42137.
Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to INFLATABLE RESTRAINT STEERING WHEEL MODULE COIL - ASSEMBLE - Off Vehicle .
Enable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
