Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Montana, 2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette, and 2003 Chevrolet Venture. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Lubricate the inner race (1) with GM P/N 12345718 (Canadian P/N 10953516).
  2. Install the inner race (1) onto the steering shaft.
  3. Install the upper bearing inner race seat (2) onto the steering shaft.
  4. Install the upper bearing spring (3) onto the steering shaft.
  5. Lubricate the lower brass surface of the turn signal cancel cam (4) with GM P/N 12377900 (Canadian P/N 10953529).
  6. Install the turn signal cancel cam (4) onto the steering shaft.
  7. Install the shaft lock shield (5) onto the steering shaft.

  8. Compress the shaft lock shield using J 23653-SIR  and J 42137 
  9. Install the new bearing retainer (1) onto the steering shaft.
  10. Firmly seat the bearing retainer (1) onto the groove on the steering shaft.
  11. Remove J 23653-SIR  and J 42137  from the steering shaft.

  12. Install the wave washer (1) onto the steering shaft (2)
  13. Install the SIR coil. Refer to SIR COIL ASSEMBLY  in Airbag.
  14. Install the steering wheel. Refer to STEERING WHEEL REPLACEMENT   . 
  15. Install the inflator module. Refer to REMOVAL & INSTALLATION (DRIVER-SIDE)  in Airbag
  16. Enable the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  in Airbag.
  17. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PROCEDURE  in Battery
