Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Montana, 2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette, and 2003 Chevrolet Venture. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If equipped install the controls and the controls harness to the steering wheel. Refer to STEERING WHEEL CONTROL SWITCH ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT   . 
  2. Route the SIR connector through the steering wheel.
  3. Align the mark on the steering wheel with the mark on the steering shaft.
  4. Install the steering wheel.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.

    Important:  This is a prevailing torque type fastener. This fastener may be reused ONLY if the following conditions are true:

    • The fastener and its counterpart are clean and free from rust.
    • The fastener develops 3 N.m (27 lb in) of torque against its counterpart prior to the fastener seating.

    If the fastener does not meet these criteria, REPLACE the fastener.

  5. Install the steering wheel nut.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the nut to 45 N.m (33 lb ft).

  6. Connect the horn switch lead to the steering hub.
  7. Connect the steering wheel controls electrical connector.
  8. Install the inflator module. Refer to REMOVAL & INSTALLATION (DRIVER-SIDE)  in Airbag.
  9. Enable the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  in Airbag.
  10. Verify that the steering wheel controls operate properly.
  11. Verify that the horn operates properly.
