Axle Shaft: Installation

- Install axle shaft to transaxle. Verify that the axle shaft is properly engaged to the transaxle by grasping the inner tripot housing and pulling outward. DO NOT pull on the axle shaft bar. The axle shaft will remain firmly in place when properly engaged.
- Install the axle shaft to the hub and bearing. Connect the ball joint to the steering knuckle. See BALL JOINT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate SUSPENSION - FRONT article.
- Connect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector. Install the stabilizer shaft link. See STABILIZER SHAFT LINK under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate SUSPENSION - FRONT article.
- Insert a drift or punch through the brake caliper and into the brake rotor in order to prevent the hub and bearing from turning. See Figure . Install the nut to the axle shaft spindle. Tighten the nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the outer tie rod end to steering knuckle. See OUTER TIE ROD END under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate STEERING GEAR article.
- Install the engine splash shield. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
