Diagnostic Aids

Inspect the master cylinder reservoir for the proper brake fluid level.
- Did you perform the Hydraulic Brake Diagnostic System Check? If so, go to next step. If not, see DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSIS.
- Inspect the brake fluid level. Is the brake fluid level okay? If so, go to next step. If not, go to BRAKE FLUID LOSS .
- Install a scan tool. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. With a scan tool, observe the LOW BRAKE FLUID parameter in the INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER data list. Does the scan tool indicate that the LOW BRAKE FLUID parameter is Off? If so, check for intermittent problem. See INTERMITTENT under SYMPTOMS - HYDRAULIC BRAKE. If not, go to next step.
- Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect the brake fluid level switch. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. With a scan tool, observe the LOW BRAKE FLUID parameter. Does the scan tool indicate that the LOW BRAKE FLUID PARAMETER is Off? If so, go to step 6 . If not, go to next step.
- Test the signal circuit of the brake fluid level switch for a short to ground. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 8 . If not, go to step 7 .
- Replace the brake fluid level switch. See MASTER CYLINDER FLUID LEVEL SENSOR . Did you complete the repair? If so, go to step 8 .
- Replace the instrument cluster (IPC). See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Did you complete the repairs? If so, go to next step.
- Operate the system in order to verify the repair. Did you correct the condition? If so, then system is okay. If system is not okay, go to step 2 .
