Test K: Change Engine Oil Message Always On
- If Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) diagnostic system check has not be performed, perform INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If IPC system check has been performed, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Using scan tool, select PCM data list. Observe engine oil life percentage value. If value is zero percent with CHANGE ENGINE OIL message displayed, go to next step. If value is not zero percent with CHANGE ENGINE OIL message displayed, go to step 4 .
- Reset GM oil life system. See ENGINE OIL LIFE SYSTEM RESETTING under programming. After system has been reset, go to step 5
- Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, observe engine oil life percentage value. If value is not 100 percent with CHANGE ENGINE OIL message off, perform powertrain control system self-diagnostics. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If value is 100 percent with CHANGE ENGINE OIL message off, system is okay.
