Instrument Panel Cluster Diagnostic System Check
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position, with engine off. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, perform TEST F: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position, with engine off. Try to establish scan tool communication with Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM), Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC), Powertrain Control Module (PCM), Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM), and theft deterrent control module. If communication with all modules is established, go to next step. If communication with all modules is not established, perform TEST E: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
- Select DISPLAY DTC function for EBCM, IPC, PCM, SDM and theft deterrent control module. Record all displayed DTCs and status of displayed DTCs. If any DTCs are displayed, go to next step. If no DTCs are displayed, repair IPC system by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX table under SYMPTOM INDEX under SYSTEM TESTS.
- If scan tool does not display any DTCs that begin with "U", go to next step. If scan tool displays any DTCs that begin with "U", perform TEST E: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
- If scan tool displays DTC P0560 or P0620, perform appropriate test. See appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS. If scan tool does not display DTC P0560 or P0620, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
