Test Ab: Turn Signal Lights/Indicators Inoperative
- Check operation of exterior lights. If exterior lights are operating properly, go to next step. If exterior lights are not operating properly, repair exterior light system as necessary. See appropriate EXTERIOR LIGHTS article.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position, with engine OFF. Observe turn signal lights and indicators. Place turn signal switch in LEFT, then RIGHT position. If turn signal lights and/or indicators do not operate properly, go to next step. If turn signal lights and indicators turn off, check for an intermittent or poor connections in related circuits. See DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS .
- If all turn signals are inoperative, go to next step. If all turn signals are not inoperative, go to step 5 .
- Observe turn signal lights and indicators. Place turn signal switch in OFF position. Place hazard switch in ON position. If hazard lights operate, go to step 6 . If hazard lights do not operate, repair hazard lights as necessary. See appropriate EXTERIOR LIGHTS article.
- If only turn signal indicators are inoperative, go to step 7 . If turn signals and indicators are inoperative, go to step 9 .
- Using a test light connected to ground, backprobe Black 48-pin in-line connector C201 terminal A2 (Pink wire). See Fig 1 . In-line connector C201 is located in IPC wiring harness-to-steering column wiring harness, mounted near base of left side of steering column. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 20 . If test light illuminates, go to step 27 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) C1 harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position, with engine off. Place turn signal switch in appropriate position. Connect a test light between ground and IPC harness connector C1 terminal "B" (Yellow wire) for right side, or terminal "C" (Dark Green wire) for left side. See Figure . If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step 34 .
- Connect a test light between battery voltage and IPC C1 harness connector terminal "A" (Black wire). If test light illuminates, go to step 25 . If test light does not illuminate, go to step 33 .
- If a front turn signal is not inoperative, go to next step. If a front turn signal is inoperative, go to step 16 .
- If a rear turn signal is not inoperative, go to step 11 . If a rear turn signal is inoperative, go to step 13 .
- Disconnect suspect mirror turn signal harness 2-pin connector. Connect a test light between mirror turn signal harness connector terminal "A" (Red wire) and terminal "B" (Black wire). Place turn signal switch in appropriate ON position. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step 24 .
- Connect test light between ground and mirror turn signal harness connector terminal "A" (Red wire). If test light illuminates, go to step 31 . If test light does not illuminate, go to step 32 .
- Remove suspect rear turn signal bulb. Connect a test light across turn signal bulb socket. Place turn signal switch in appropriate ON position. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step 23 .
- Disconnect suspect taillight harness connector. Connect a test light between ground and taillight harness connector White wire terminal. Place turn signal switch in appropriate ON position. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 22 .
- Connect test light between turn signal bulb socket Yellow wire terminal and tail light harness connector Black wire terminal. If test light illuminates, go to step 24 . If test light does not illuminate, go to step 30 .
- Remove suspect front turn signal bulb. Connect a test light between ground and front turn signal bulb socket Dark Blue wire terminal for right front turn signal, or Light Blue wire terminal for left front turn signal. Place turn signal switch in appropriate ON position. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step 18 .
- Connect test light between turn signal bulb socket Black wire terminal and Dark Blue wire terminal for left front turn signal, or Light Blue wire terminal for right front turn signal. Place turn signal switch in appropriate ON position. If test light illuminates, go to step 23 . If test light does not illuminate, go to step 29 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Daytime Running Lights (DRL) control module harness connector. DRL control module is located behind instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position, with engine off. Connect test light between ground and DRL harness connector terminal "B" (Light Blue wire) for left front turn signal, or terminal "G" (Dark Blue wire) for right front turn signal. See Figure . Place turn signal switch in appropriate ON position. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 21 .
- Connect a fused jumper between DRL control module harness connector terminal "A" (Orange wire) and terminal "B" (Light Blue wire) for left front turn signal, or terminal "G" (Dark Blue wire) for right front turn signal. Place turn signal switch in appropriate ON position. Connect test light between ground and front turn signal bulb socket Dark Blue wire terminal for right front turn signal, or Light Blue wire terminal for left front turn signal. If test light illuminates, go to step 26 . If test light does not illuminates, go to step 28 .
- Test Pink wire between fuse block and turn signal switch for high resistance or an open. See appropriate EXTERIOR LIGHTS article. If no problem is found, go to step 35 . If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 41 .
- Test Light Blue wire for left front turn signal, or Dark Blue wire for right front turn signal between DRL and suspect turn signal socket for high resistance or and open. If no problem is found, go to step 27 . If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 41 .
- Test Yellow wire between suspect turn signal bulb socket and turn signal switch for high resistance or an open. See appropriate EXTERIOR LIGHTS article. If no problem is found, go to step 27 . If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 41 .
- Check for poor connections at suspect turn signal bulb socket. If no problem is found, go to step 39 . If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 41 .
- Check for poor connections at harness connector of suspect taillight or mirror turn signal. If no problem is found, go to step 38 . If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 41 .
- Check for poor connections at IPC harness connector. If no problem is found, go to step 40 . If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 41 .
- Check for poor connections at DRL harness connector. If no problem is found, go to step 36 . If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 41 .
- Check for poor connections at turn signal switch harness connector. If no problem is found, go to step 37 . If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 41 .
- Repair high resistance or open in Orange wire between DRL control module harness connector and fuse block. See appropriate EXTERIOR LIGHTS article. After repair, go to step 41 .
- Repair high resistance or open in Black wire between ground and suspect front turn signal bulb socket. See appropriate EXTERIOR LIGHTS article. After repair, go to step 41 .
- Repair high resistance or open in Black wire between ground and suspect tail light harness connector. See appropriate EXTERIOR LIGHTS article. After repair, go to step 41 .
- Repair high resistance or open in Black wire between ground and suspect mirror turn signal harness connector. See appropriate EXTERIOR LIGHTS article. After repair, go to step 41 .
- Repair high resistance or open in Red wire between turn signal switch and suspect mirror turn signal harness connector. See appropriate EXTERIOR LIGHTS article. After repair, go to step 41 .
- Repair high resistance or open in Black wire between ground and suspect turn signal harness connector. See appropriate EXTERIOR LIGHTS article. After repair, go to step 41 .
- Repair high resistance or open in Yellow wire for right side, or Dark Green wire for left side, between IPC harness connector and appropriate turn signal bulb socket. See appropriate EXTERIOR LIGHTS article. After repair, go to step 41 .
- Repair short to ground in Pink wire between fuse block and turn signal switch. See appropriate EXTERIOR LIGHTS article. After repair, go to step 41 .
- Replace DRL control module. See DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step 41 .
- Replace multifunction switch. See MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step 41 .
- Replace suspect taillight bulb or mirror turn signal bulb. After repair, go to step 41 .
- Replace suspect turn bulb. After repair, go to step 41 .
- Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step 2 . If system operates properly, system is okay.
NOTE:
Turn signal switch and hazard switch are integral part of multifunction switch.
