Test E: Fuel Gauge Indicates Full At All Times

  1. If instrument cluster system operation check has been performed, go to next step. If instrument cluster system operation check has not been performed, perform instrument cluster system operation check. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  2. Disconnect 4-pin fuel gauge sending unit harness connector C310. Fuel gauge sending unit harness connector C310 is located under rear passenger seat. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If fuel gauge goes to EMPTY position, go to next step. If fuel gauge remains at FULL position, go to step  4 .
  3. Disconnect in-line 2-pin harness connector C300. In-line harness connector C300 is located under rear passenger seat. Measure resistance between ground and fuel gauge sending unit harness connector C310 terminal No. 1 (Yellow/Red wire). See Figure . If resistance is 2 ohms or more, go to step  6 . If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to step  10 .
  4. Disconnect instrument cluster 13-pin harness connector C3. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) 16-pin harness connector C2. Measure resistance between ground and instrument harness connector C3 terminal No. 9 (Yellow/Red wire). See Figure . If resistance is 2 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to step  7 .
  5. Inspect instrument cluster printed circuit for damaged or loose connections. If printed circuit is okay, go to step  8 . If printed circuit is not okay, go to step  9 .
  6. Replace fuel sending unit. After repair, perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  7. Repair short to ground in Yellow/Red wire between instrument cluster and fuel sending unit. After repair, perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  8. Replace fuel gauge. After repair, perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  9. Repair or replace instrument cluster printed circuit. After repair, perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  10. Repair short to ground in Yellow/Red wire between fuel sending unit and instrument cluster. After repair, perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
