Test C: Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge Inaccurate
- If instrument cluster system operation check has been performed, go to next step. If instrument cluster system operation check has not been performed, perform instrument cluster system operation check. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Disconnect Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor 2-pin harness connector. Using harness connector Test Adapter Kit (J-35616-A), connect Red lead of Signal Generator and Instrument Cluster Tester (J-33431-C) to ECT sensor harness connector terminal No. 2 (Yellow/White wire) and Black lead to ground. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Set tester resistance dial to 136 ohms, 52 ohms, and 10 ohms. If ECT gauge indicates "C" at 136 ohms, midpoint between "C" and "H" at 52 ohms, and "H" at 10 ohms, go to next step. If ECT gauge does not indicate as specified, go to step 4 .
- Replace ECT sensor. After repair, perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Disconnect Tester (J-33431-C). Disconnect instrument cluster 16-pin harness connector C1. Measure resistance in Yellow/White wire between instrument cluster harness connector C1 terminal No. 6 and ECT sensor harness connector terminal No. 2. See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to step 7 .
- Inspect instrument cluster printed circuit for cracks, corrosion or bad connections. If printed circuit is okay, go to next step. If printed circuit is not okay, go to step 8 .
- Replace ECT gauge. After repair, perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Repair open in Yellow/White wire between instrument cluster and ECT sensor. After repair, perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Replace instrument cluster printed circuit. After repair, perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
